Special Showcase at The Arts Club of Washington: Dana Tai Soon Burgess Dance Company's "A Tribute to Marian Anderson"

the Smithsonian's first Choreographer-in-Residence, Dana Tai Soon Burgess, shares a special showcase of his newest work, a suite of modern dances that pay homage to vocalist Marian Anderson, an icon who broke racial barriers through her resplendent voice. The work, entitled "A Tribute to Marian Anderson" is being premiered at the National Portrait Gallery this month.

The tribute will feature dancers from the Dana Tai Soon Burgess Dance Company, opera singer Millicent Scarlett, and pianist Jeffery Watson. Burgess will also participate in a Q&A with members and guests.

Dana Tai Soon Burgess, the National Portrait Gallery Choreographer-in-Residence, and his company will respond to the exhibition “Black Out: Silhouettes Then and Now” in a poignant modern dance work with video by designer Kelly Colburn. After the performance, join Burgess and Portrait Gallery Curator Asma Naeem as they discuss “Black Out” and Burgess’s process in creating his newest work.
